조청래는 누구인가?
조청래 창원시장 예비후보는 누구인가?
God의 <어머니께>에 나오는 가사를 보면 “어려서부터 우리집은 가난했었고 남들다하는 외식 몇 번 한 적이 없었고”로 시작하는 가사는 마치 조청래 후보의 유년 시절을 이야기 하는 것 같습니다.
2남 2녀 중 막내로 태어난 조청래 후보는 18살 나이 차이가 나는 형과 누나와 함께 교원동 공영주택에서 생활하였습니다. 10평이 겨우 넘는 그곳이 삶의 유일한 보금자리였습니다.
초등학교 5학년 때 중풍으로 쓰러지신 아버지를 대신하여 어머니는 마산어시장에서 죽 장사를 시작하셨습니다. 마산어시장에서 교원동까지 힘겹게 올라오는 어머니의 죽 리어카를 밀어주면서 조청래 후보는 철이 들었습니다.
분기 등록금을 내라고 하는 선생님의 이야기를 듣고도 어머님에게 등록금 이야기는 하지 못하고 어머니 죽 리어카를 밀고 교원동까지 힘겹게 올라왔습니다. 그럴때마다 달의 그림자는 교원동까지 길게 힘없이 축 늘어져 있었습니다.

힘들고 어려운 가운데에도 어머니의 희생과 형, 누나들의 응원에 힘입어 고려대학교 정치외교학과에 입학하였습니다. 겨우 하루 풀칠을 하는 입장에서는 대학 등록금은 너무도 사치스러운 일이었습니다.
“제발 대학 문턱이라도 밟게 해달라”고 눈물로 기도하였습니다.
